Twinkie...All About Me
Twinkie is an "Alpha" Lhasa Apso. She lives her her life
with one paw
over the line...My first clue to her personality was in the pet
shop the day we met~ when she knocked the little shih tzu
I was holding out of my lap~ and planted herself in the treasured spot.
Second clue was when she triumphantly pranced in front of the
remaining puppies cages and barked and growled goodbye. Out I
walked, with this little blonde cupcake gloating over my shoulder
at the pet shop I had found her in. My life was to be changed
forever. She is named after the famous cake of which she shares
the same color~~she is golden blonde and has cream down the middle
of her tummy!
Puppy hood was a traumatic time for Mom and the little shark dog. Twinkie
continued to have one paw over the line. She chewed the bedpost and stretcher
of my four poster bed like it was corn on the cob. She put one paw over the line
when she ate the wallpaper off the living room wall and chewed a crater in the
sheetrock. She had one paw over the line a lot, and left "her mark" on many
items in my house...but I always forgave her and came to understand and love
her dearly. Thankfully, she outgrew this need to teeth and chew, and turned over
a new leaf! Twinkie is a survivor. She survived emergency surgery for a
herniated disc in her spine that completely paralyzed her. She struggled in
the
long recovery period where she had to learn to walk again. She grieved
and became depressed when her best friend and constant companion, Muffy
Dog disappeared from her life. She survived the jealousy and learned to love
another friend, Sugar Bear, through many "ups and downs."
Twinkie is eleven years old now, and I hope to have her many more years.
She is an extraordinary little dog who has experienced many life events
in her short time here. She is a wonderful creature full of expression,
emotion, and affection. She is my protector and furiously guards our
home~ but it is all a big front. Inside she is the cowardly lion and nothing but
a big mush pot. She knows me, and I know her. She has been to the edge and
back with one paw over the line.
